A border of grasses and perennials in October – seed heads catch the autumn sun, whilst autumn flowering perennials add colour. Planting which gives interest in all seasons surrounds this summerhouse which is used all year round.
Fresh white flowers in a wild flower area. Grasses and evergreen foliage plants give interest in all seasons, while flowers come and go through the year. Colour and form in October. Deep colours in flowers and foliage in a border in mid-summer.
Plants growing amongst gravel, given no maintenance, give a late summer display. Perennials and shrubs give interest in structure and colour through the year, with only one maintenance session per year. Shown here in late summer. Dramatic deep purple acer leaves provide a foil for delicate and intricate astrantia flowers, in this shady woodland garden. An evergreen grass is it by a low ray of sun in this narrow border in late autumn.

The planting designs I create, are crafted to suit the taste of the individual client, and include plants which will thrive in the local conditions. A planting design benefits from having some structural and evergreen plants, which provide attractive form and foliage all year, in addition to plants with foliage and flowers that change through the year, providing seasonal interest.

I am a qualified and experienced garden designer, and my degree in biology, specialising in botany and ecology gives me an in-depth appreciation of the conditions plants need in order to thrive, and enables me to select the right plants for the local conditions in the garden.

I design and produce complete new plantings, and also advise on and carry out renovation of existing planting – where the addition of a few well chosen plants, and maybe a little pruning and clearing, can make the most of the best features of the garden and add fresh interest. Services are provided in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, North London and Buckinghamshire, and also through southern England.

I provide mentoring for new gardeners, to support them in gaining knowledge and confidence and to assist them with the care of plants.

I also provide horticultural care, including visits to carry out pruning, tidying, planting of seasonal bedding, and to plan future improvements.
